To Whom It May Concern: My name is Shawn Phillips; I am a Software Engineer for Newport Corporation. I am writing this letter as a friend and co-worker who has had the privilege to work first hand with Doug Holt for the past year. Doug has been an inspiration to me when it comes to his work ethic and abilities to achieve success within each project in which he has been associated. He has the knowledge and experience that allows him to not only write source code efficiently but also to support the efforts of those around him. Doug has more than on occasion sacrificed his time to help those of us around him to develop the skills necessary to make ourselves more efficient and productive workers. One of Doug’s strongest qualities is his ability to take charge of a project at any point within the project's progression and see it through to completion. During my experience in working with Doug he has been asked to take over many projects, some of which had been almost completed but needed his help to either speed up the process or debug complicated issues, some of which he was involved with from the ground up. Doug is known for always going above and beyond any expectation placed upon him. He is a firm believer that doing things properly is the only way to do them, often times resulting in products and applications that exceed their requirements.
